Smiles all round as, after eight months of no competitive action what so ever, the first BDCC event since 24th August 2020 saw a excellent entry of twenty five take to the Blandford tarmac.

A fine mix of the usual suspects, some old friends and faces from the past and a sprinkling of new  members were all itching to get out there and have some quality fun.
A huge thank you must go to Rob Dance for coordinating the event, the marshals for their work and MSUK for waiving the usual protocols and issuing the event permit in record time. After such a long layoff the warm spring sunshine and some flat out motoring was a delight.

Considering the current situation the authorities at Blandford were bold and quick to react positively to the request for permission to use the venue. They could quite easily have been reluctant to be setting a precedent for the future.

However Blandford have been shrewd and this year have put up the fees for using the venue. These events are run for the benefit of  BDCC Members and make almost no money for the Club. The financial margins are very tight. As a result the entry fee has had to rise to cover the cost and to break even. The fact remains that the BDCC Slaloms are still the best kept secret in Motorsport as they probably represent the very best value for money available – but keep it to yourself and don’t tell anyone.

The Winners. In truth everyone was a winner, but Graham Hoare took FTD, Mitch Stanfield Class A, Steve Candy Class B and Geoff Bennett Class C.
Full results should be on the website shortly.

The Maybug Slalom is the next event on 16th May. This was originally scheduled for Bovington but permissions here have not yet come through.  Blandford have agreed that the date is available and are willing to allow access once again.  Steve Candy is running this one and it will be the first use of the new Entry and Timing App. The details of entry are on the website but please note there are no spectators but Marshals are always welcome !

On a seperate note, Jason will be taking the Display Unit to the Organford Show at Pikes Farm Organford on 22/23rd May. Help with manning the Stand would be appreciated and Jason can be contacted on 07876 744 689 if you can help.

Further Ramblings.

At the first Committee meeting for a very long time, Simon reported that since  early November 2020 there has been a staggering 117,000 hits on the Club website by 46,000 unique visitors. Obviously a lot of people have been spending too much time spent inside and not going out !
