Final Positions in the WMC 2020/2021 Car Trials Championship (full list can be found here)

After a very unusual year we have managed to complete the Car Trials Championship in style having run six events in normal Woolbridge professional manner, much better than expected earlier in the year with the current circumstances.

We had a total of 61 competitors compete throughout the year, how many clubs I wonder can claim that!

The usual top finishers are present with a few new competitors joining the throng and some very up and coming late arrivals threatening to upset the order next year if their cars become reliable or they manage to attend more events.

The last round was the Golden Springs back in the hands of Mark Hoppe after Andy Webb ran the out of position 2020 event in October so we had 2 Golden Springs Trials in this year’s championship. The Golden Springs followed the well supported theme we have had all year and the weather was almost perfect for a change (a little more dampness would have helped) so a strong MSUK, BTRDA and ASWMC championship contender list was supported by the best of Woolbridge.

Dan and Will now having abandoned France and adopted Italy in the form of a diesel Fiat joined class 1 and came away with excellent results to boost their overall placings, such a shame Covid made them miss a round as they could have been even higher placed.

Mark continued as the man to beat once more being not prone to making mistakes like Gary and Andy who fell apart a bit at the end so much so that Graham Timbers deservedly took second place in the main league and thus forfeits the Silver League prime slot.

Another competitor to quietly creep into the top list is Adam Smith in the Scimitar who finished sixth in the Main League and inherited the Silver League winner’s slot from Graham, very well done.

David Moss and Mike Dore also had strong results and new recruit Chris Hellings frightened us all with 2 very strong finishes to the year, people to watch next year if they manage to fit in all rounds!

Charlie Dovey once again takes best Junior and if Tim can make the Clio more reliable we will all be threatened by both of them next year.

Merv is the top official, having been Mr Results at most events, closely followed by Graham who has forsaken driving this year and we are indebted to him for bringing the equipment to and from each event and helping with laying out and marshalling duties, he may wish to drive again next year so any additional volunteer help is always welcome.

The same team lay out most events the average age of which is creeping up and this is easily corrected so if you have some Saturday time please let us know, you will be very welcome.

There will be a meeting of the Car Trials sub committee before the start of next season and anything anyone wishes discussed / changed then please contact Mark, Graham, Gary, Merv, Dave or Andy, absolutely any comments will be well received. The championship rules will be reviewed and the usual review of the “Designated Drivers” will take place as there are several new additions to be considered by the committee!

We still have two working loan cars and hope to continue with them next year, unfortunately they can only be used at Hogcliff unless a competitor can trailer them, the Taster event in September should be our start to the 2021/22 season hopefully followed by a full calendar, Covid permitting.

Finally the club has purchased a new enclosed box trailer for trials and autotests which was brought out at the last event, it will be adorned with regalia and fitted out appropriately before next year and will live at Frampton. The idea is that equipment will be arranged in sections, everything is available and it can also be used to house the meeting secretary as required thus saving valuable time and effort and also negating the use of the Gazebo. Hopefully we will have this perfected by September and it will look professional and help to promote the club.

Hope to see you all in September, also watch this space / web site for an evening July Grass Autotest.

Thank-you for your support.
